Who am I?
I confidently claim that I am a precious child of God. I am married to Tim McDaniel. Together, we have three beautiful boys Brock, Bo and Brennan. I must admit that the title of mother has been the highest honor I hold to date. Nothing else compares to it. When my youngest son was 16 months old, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Bipolar is a treatable condition marked by extreme changes in mood, thought, energy and behavior. The changes can last for hours, days, weeks, months or even years. Mood swings can alternate between mania (highs) and depression (lows). The changes can indicate an imbalance in the brain chemicals called neurotransmitters.
My childhood was peppered with trauma including childhood sexual abuse and living with a raging alcoholic father; therefore, my mental health challenges have been enhanced. In addition to bipolar disorder, I have been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)---PMS on steroids. At times, I have been plagued with suicidal ideations. The one sustaining grace through my difficult times has been my faith in Jesus and His love embracing me through my amazing support system. I like to write. More specifically, I like to write about my personal experiences with living with bipolar disorder, PTSD and PMDD.
